Working Internationally

There are some fantastic opportunities to work in the industry worldwide, but it is a big decision to make.  Before making serious enquiries, you should double check that family commitments etc. will allow a move.

  • Finance is only one aspect of working overseas, and shouldn’t be the overriding consideration.  Whereas good packages can be achieved, living and working abroad should be a lifestyle choice
  • Taken as a chance to improve yourself professionally and personally, working overseas can broaden your horizons and be a positive influence on your career
  • Working for an internationally recognised company will maintain your CV in good order and allow you to return more easily to employment in the UK
  • There is more competition for positions on the overseas circuit,  so make sure your application is thoroughly prepared
  • Decide whether you are looking for a fixed term contract or to emigrate
  • The cost of living varies from country to country, and often a fantastic lifestyle can be maintained on a relatively low income
  • Risk-manage your move. Making too many changes at once can make it difficult to adjust to your new situation
  • Before you make a decision on where to go ensure you investigate: lodging, healthcare, schooling, tax, work permits, living costs and culture, as well as the impact on your family. Use the internet to help
